I have “flattened” and reinstalled Windows on a spare home computer. (It took about 15 or more hours.) The version of ucrtbase.dll that was installed on it is 10.0.26100.4768. I am going to install Scilab 2025 on it again and test to see if I can get the Xcos demos to crash. I’ll report back when I have results.
Here is the update. I installed Scilab 2025 on my home Windows machine (as administrator) and it located the Scilab 2025 folder in the Program Files directory. (I don’t think this is significant. I just mention it for completeness.) The uctrbase.dll on the new Windows 11 that I installed (Windows 11 Home, Version 24H2, OS Build 1000.261000.197.0) is version 10.0.26100.4768. I put the Scilab/Xcos demos through the paces. I opened and ran all the demos in Standard Demos … and it did NOT crash a single time.
So, I do believe the problem is with the older version of the uctrbase.dll file (10.0.22621.3593). I’ve seen several other reports on the web for other programs having an issue with this dll version. I am going to work with my IT department to see if I can get a newer version of uctrbase.dll installed on my computer.
Thank you for your help, guidance, and suggestions. Much appreciated. Philip
