Panic: Command history window suddenly went blank

PROBLEM: Command history window suddenly went blank in the middle of innocent Scilab work. Panic.
Also the history file only contains just the few very recent commands.

What has happened? Because information from recent weeks is important, I can retrieve the earlier “history” file from the Time Machine. But would there be another option?

Yes, for future work, don’t rely on the command history, write scripts and save them !
